Maggie Gyllenhaal may be a famous actress, but she's still expected to pull her weight at Brooklyn's Park Slope Food Co-op, mmmkay? Co-op members are upset because Gyllenhaal and other VIPs are reportedly sending assistants or nannies to work their required monthly two-plus-hour shifts at the organic produce haven. "Everyone in Park Slope is talking about the wealthy members of the co-op sending people in their place to do their shifts," one neighborhood blog complains, according to the New York Post. "[The co-op] doesn’t know how to do deal with it. The celebrities are sending other people."
"I don’t have a cleaning lady or any staff to send. I had to hire baby sitters at night to take care of my kids while I did my shifts," a member tells the Post. "It’s ridiculous!" But other sources insist they've seen Gyllenhaal working her own shifts, sometimes even with brother Jake in tow, and one notes that the actress works in "private areas" so as not to cause a big scene. Gyllenhaal's rep adds that the actress doesn't have an assistant, and when asked if Gyllenhaal was sending someone to the co-op in her place, the rep said, "Who would go? She doesn’t have anyone in her employ except me, and I don’t do it." (More Maggie Gyllenhaal stories.)
