If you happen to be flush with cash, then this list of the 15 most expensive places to visit on the globe should not limit your vacation plans. Otherwise, steer clear or prepare to splurge. The list, courtesy of US News' Travel site, is compiled from UBS' Prices and Earnings report.

  1. Oslo, Norway: The prices are consistently astronomical; even a bottle of water costs $6. Oslo has topped the list since 2006.
  2. Zurich, Switzerland: Residents are soothed by Switzerland's high salaries, but tourists will hunt in vain for a deal. Prices spike in the summer as people flock to Lake Zurich, and the winter's not that much better as skiers hit the Alps.
  3. Geneva, Switzerland: Swiss paychecks are hefty and the Swiss franc is robust; both are reflected in Geneva's high price tags. The eurozone crisis is not making a dent.
  4. Copenhagen, Denmark: The storied city's antique stores, romantic eateries, and snug coffee shops are tourist draws, but they're merciless on the wallet. Price levels remain elevated despite the continent's financial woes, especially during the summer.
