The captain may have jumped ship—or, as he claims, tripped his way off—but it looks like there were some brave musicians on board the Costa Concordia. Hungarian violinist Sandor Feher is the first victim to have been identified, and a pianist who played in a trio with Feher says he saw his colleague helping crying children put their life jackets on, the Telegraph reports. The pianist says Feher then returned to his cabin in an attempt to retrieve his beloved violin and wasn't seen again.
Another musician, rock drummer Giuseppe Girolamo, is listed among the missing, reports the New York Daily News. Witnesses say the Italian, who was hired last month to play in a band on board, gave up his seat in a lifeboat to a child and returned to the doomed cruise liner to help passengers disembark. The death toll now stands at 11, with 21 people unaccounted for. One woman who was mistakenly put on the missing list has turned up alive in Germany, the Guardian reports.
