McDonald's and Target have both dropped a major egg supplier after an animal rights group released an undercover video last week showing animal cruelty and harsh conditions at five of the supplier's facilities, reports AP. "Having been made aware of the unacceptable conditions in the company's egg-laying facilities, effective immediately, Target will discontinue its business relationship with Sparboe Farms," said Target in a statement.

The group Mercy for Animals released video footage last week showing a worker at Sparboe Farms swinging a bird by its feet, chicks being suffocated, animals packed into cramped cages, and other disturbing scenes. Sparboe, the fifth-largest egg producer in the US, says it is reviewing its operations following the video, and that the company has a "zero tolerance policy" for animal cruelty.
