If you employ a lot of 20-somethings, don’t block their access to Facebook—they might revolt. Today’s young people value access to the Internet and social media extremely highly, according to a new Cisco report, which surveyed 1,400 students and 1,400 young professionals aged 21-29. Among the results: A whopping 40% of students and 45% of young employees say they’d take a lower-paying job over a higher-paying one if it meant better social media access, more mobility, and more choice in which technological devices they used, CBS News reports.
Among college students, 56% would turn a job down outright if it blocked social media, according to HotHardWare. Overall, 68% said they should be able to sign into personal accounts on work-issued devices, and 81% would prefer to pick those devices. More than half said the Internet was an “integral part of their lives,” with a third putting it on par with food or water. Sixty-four percent would rather have Internet access than a car, and 40% value it more than dating or going out with friends. (Read more Facebook stories.)
