Carolina’s Scott Walker scored his team’s first goal five minutes into the first period. That 1-0 lead was all Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward needed, but Carolina added three more tallies to give themselves a 4-0 win over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Cory Stillman netted two goals and David Tanabe also scored one, reports the AP.
Ward’s 28 saves made sure that this contest stood in stark contrast to Carolina’s previous effort, an 8-1 massacre at the hands of Buffalo. For the Rangers, Henrik Lundqvist stopped 25 shots but surrendered more than 3 goals for only the second time in 25 appearances this season. New York could have tied Ottawa for first place in the Eastern Conference with a win. (More hockey stories.)
