If your brown eyes are keeping you from feeling like a real California girl, a doctor in Laguna Beach may soon be able to help you out: Dr. Gregg Homer says he has figured out how to turn them blue. Homer, who has been working on the procedure for a decade, says that his laser technology can make the switch without damaging vision or the eye's tissue. But this is no Halloween costume: It lasts forever, KTLA reports.

The laser is “tuned to a specific frequency to remove the pigment from the surface of the iris,” Homer says. Underneath the brown layer of pigment that gets removed, everyone has blue eyes, he says. The procedure lasts only 20 seconds, but it takes two to three weeks for the eyes to lose the brown pigment tissue, which Homer says never grows back. The procedure—which is expected to run about $5,000—should be available in the US in three years, he notes. (More cosmetic surgery stories.)
