FBI Busts Low-Tech Celebrity Hacker

The FBI has arrested a suspect accused of hacking the emails of Scarlett Johansson and other celebrities and leaking personal—sometimes nude—photos, reports the Los Angeles Times. The feds say Christopher Chaney, 35, didn't have a sophisticated tech scheme. Rather, he pored over public info available in magazines, on Facebook, etc., and used it to guess passwords. Other celebrities reportedly victimized include Mila Kunis, Vanessa Hudgens, and Christina Aguilera.

The Jacksonville, Florida, man did not make money from leaking the photos, according to the FBI. He apparently did it for kicks. Chaney, who faces 121 years if convicted of all the various hacking charges, pleaded guilty to mail fraud in 1998, reports TMZ. That crime involved a scheme to steal life insurance money by pretending to be a policy holder with a similar name. (More Scarlett Johansson stories.)
