Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls were murdered by the order of rival record company bosses, according to an LAPD detective who investigated Tupac's slaying in 1996. Gang informant Keffe Davis claims Sean Combs—then known as Puff Daddy—offered him $1 million to kill Tupac and Death Row records chief Suge Knight, reports LA Weekly, citing excerpts from former LAPD investigator Greg Kading's book Murder Rap. According to Kading, Knight paid a gang member to kill Biggie Smalls in retaliation for Tupac's murder.

Kading, who quit the LAPD when the investigation into the two murders was shut down, claims that the force is sitting on evidence solving the killings. Combs "took me downstairs," the book quotes Davis as saying, "and he's like, 'Man, I want to get rid of them dudes.'" Davis, who claims his nephew, now deceased, carried out Tupac's murder, is fighting to avoid a long sentence on drug charges. Combs says the story is "pure fiction and completely ridiculous," while Knight has yet to comment. (More Marion "Suge" Knight stories.)
