Radical cleric Anwar an-Awlaki apparently had other things on his mind than just religion. During the time he spent in San Diego as a graduate student, the late cleric was arrested twice for soliciting hookers in the city's more seamy districts, reveals the Los Angeles Times. For the first misdemeanor conviction in 1996, Awlaki was fined $400 and sent to an AIDS awareness seminar.

The sins of the flesh led to a second bust in 1997 that resulted in a $240 fine and community service. As a student at San Diego State, Awlaki also preached at a local mosque and befriended two Saudi students who would be among the 9/11 attackers.
