Christine O’Donnell isn’t the first politician to make headlines through “cheap tricks and publicity stunts,” writes Meghan McCain in the Daily Beast. But she is the first “‘fad’ politician”—one “whose moment is fleeting but intense and memorable for all of the wrong reasons.” The Tea Party brought her to prominence without proper vetting, and Delaware ended up with a candidate lacking “substance,” making “rookie mistakes,” and humiliating the GOP. So it’s no surprise her book has sold just 2,200 copies and the tour has been disastrous.

Republicans and the Tea Party should learn from O’Donnell’s example: It’s time for “serious” candidates that won’t just be the butt of Democrats’ jokes, McCain writes. As for O’Donnell’s future, she’d be best advised to follow the rumors and take a role on Dancing With the Stars. “Let’s stop giving the left something and someone to laugh at. Christine, I think Maksim Chmerkovskiy would've been a great choice for a dance partner for you.” (More Christine O'Donnell stories.)
