Sarah Palin’s scheduled appearance at a Tea Party rally in Iowa this Saturday—which many have speculated could launch her 2012 campaign—is “no longer confirmed,” a source close to Palin tells the Wall Street Journal, accusing the organizers at Tea Party of America of “continual lying.” The Journal originally reported that the event was canceled, but later corrected its story to say it was only “on hold.”
Part of the dispute seems to revolve around Christine O’Donnell, who was originally booked to speak just ahead of Palin, only to be suddenly un-invited, and just as suddenly re-invited. Organizers told the Des Moines Register that they’d “panicked” after some angry emails about O’Donnell, but later changed their mind. The group’s leader said Palin’s aides had asked him to bring O’Donnell back—but the Journal’s source says that’s not true. They also cited issues over fundraising and logistics. Stay tuned.
