Newt Gingrich once again called Barack Obama “the food stamp president” yesterday, and said Obama has been so bad for black voters that they could jump to the GOP. Last time Gingrich tried the food stamp line—in which he touts himself, by contrast, as the “paycheck president”—critics accused him of coded racism. But this time, Gingrich followed the remark with a pitch to black youth, noting the 41% unemployment among black teens, Talking Points Memo reports.

“No administration in modern times has failed younger blacks more than the Obama administration,” Newt declared, urging Republicans to try to fill the void. “We have to have the courage to walk into that neighborhood, to talk to that preacher, to visit that small business, to talk to that mother.” And if the GOP can convince blacks that it can create jobs, "you're going to see margins in percents you never dreamed of decide there's a better future," he said. Gingrich isn't the only one hitting the theme; this weekend Michele Bachmann also argued that Obama had "failed the African American community" and the Latino community to boot.
