To say that Newt Gingrich is not happy may be a bit of an understatement. In an interview with Greta van Susteren last night on Fox News, Gingrich ripped his “backstabbing” ex-staff members for criticizing his wife, calling it “despicable” and claiming that they just didn’t like the fact that Newt and Callista’s relationship is “very similar … to Nancy and Ronnie Reagan,” he said, according to Politico. “People blamed Nancy Reagan for things that Ronald Reagan did. … The fact is, we are partners in thinking a lot of things through. … I think that unnerves some of the consultants who think they ought to own everything.”
Of course, he wasn’t happy with NBC, either, which ran a report on the Callista-bashing yesterday that quoted only anonymous, “cowardly people who frankly lied about my wife,” he said, calling the piece “totally irresponsible and personally reprehensible. … I think NBC owes Callista an apology.” Last but not least, ABC News reports, Gingrich laid into that news outlet as well for what he called a “hit piece” alleging that money from one of his charities went to one of his for-profit companies.
