World / Osama bin Laden Bin Laden Did Try to Protect Self Using Wife Al-Qaeda leader acted 'cowardly' before death By Evann Gastaldo, Newser Staff Posted May 6, 2011 8:45 AM CDT Copied This frame grab from video obtained by ABC News on May 2, 2011 shows a section of a room in the compound where it is believed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden lived in Abbottabad, Pakistan. (AP Photo/ABC News, File) Just in case you don't already have whiplash from all the times the story has changed, here's the latest: Sources involved in the raid on Osama bin Laden tell Fox News the al-Qaeda leader did, in fact, use his wife as a sort of human shield. Bin Laden seemed "scared" and "completely confused" during the raid and acted in a "cowardly manner," including "shoving his wife" at the Navy SEAL who shot him. The sources add that though only one person killed in the raid was actually carrying a weapon and bin Laden himself was not armed, two weapons were within bin Laden's reach. (He also apparently never went beyond two of the compound's rooms.) Report an error
