Ahh, childhood: that magical time when you can be slapped with a $100 fine for playing tag on the street outside your house. At least, that’s what will happen if a certain group of Edgewater, Fla., homeowners get their way. The Persimmon Place homeowners association will vote later this month on a proposal that would ban kids from playing outside in the playground-free subdivision. Tag, skateboarding, Big Wheels, and loud toys would no longer be allowed on “common property” if the proposal is passed, WKMG reports. The proposal also states that "minor children will be under the direct control of a responsible adult at all times."
"They came in and rented in a community that does not have a playground and is not conducive to children. Then they expect the children to play in the driveways and parking lot,” says one HOA board member, who says she recently saw a little girl playing unsupervised on top of power meters. “You wouldn't see them playing the parking lot at Walmart or Kmart, but they come here and turn the children loose.” (More Florida stories.)
