Malikah Shabazz, Malcolm X’s youngest daughter, has been arrested on outstanding warrants that include charges of grand larceny, forgery, and identity theft. The New York Times reports that Shabazz was accused of stealing from the widow of one of Malcolm’s bodyguards. She was arrested in North Carolina on Friday, and faces a hearing for extradition to New York today.

Police originally took notice of Shabazz after receiving a call saying that her daughter wasn’t attending school. It was a misunderstanding, according to her lawyer—the daughter was being home-schooled—but when police investigated, they discovered the warrants, issued in 2009. (More Malcolm X stories.)
