Ending a NCAA record 43 game losing streak yesterday, Navy defeated the Fighting Irish for the first time since 1963. The end came in suitably dramatic fashion, as the Midshipmen pulled off the victory 46-44 in triple overtime. The loss perpetuates Notre Dame's dismal season, sending them to 1-8, with a record fifth straight loss at home.
"What a game," said Navy coach Paul Johnson, "...Our players...will have that they are the first class that broke the streak, and they won't have to hear any more about it." "We lost the game. The streak doesn't mean anything to me," said beleaguered Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis, adding "These kids are 17. You think they're worrying about 43 years?"
