A rare white Christmas in parts of the South complicated life for travelers, and airlines canceled hundreds of flights ahead of heavy snow for the East Coast. The National Weather Service said the storm could bring about a foot of snow to New York City and Boston tomorrow, up to 10 inches in Philadelphia, 5 inches in DC, and 9 inches in Raleigh, NC.
After blanketing parts of the Midwest and hampering motorists there on Christmas Eve, the storm dipped south late last night. It's expected to intensify and move northeast through tomorrow. Winter weather advisories were in effect from Arkansas to the Carolinas and from West Virginia to central Alabama. Much of North Carolina was under a winter storm warning. Delta canceled hundreds of flights from its Atlanta hub. (More Christmas stories.)
