Down 5-0 going into the third period against the reigning Eastern Conference champs is not ideal hockey strategy, but the mediocre Atlanta Thrashers gave whatever fans stuck it out their money's worth. A hat trick by Ilya Kovalchuk and another goal from Eric Perrin gave the Thrashers momentum heading into the game's final minutes with a two-man advantage, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

But that's where the comeback stalled, and the Sens netted an empty net goal to send the Thrashers packing. "It was a heck of a period we played, but unfortunately the game is 60 minutes," said interim coach/GM Don Waddell. "You spot [Ottawa] five goals, it's tough to come back."
