Hi ho, Silver! Johnny Depp will bring back the thrilling days of yesteryear with a fresh portrayal of the Lone Ranger's unflappable Native American sidekick, Tonto. Depp is bound to majorly overhaul the character of the quiet, subservient Tonto created by actor Jay Silverheels in the popular 1950s series. But a big question remains: Who will play his kemosabe? It's going to take a masked cowboy tough enough to endure upstaging by The Depp.

Painful case in point: Orlando Bloom. He was the ostensible hero of the first Pirates of the Caribbean until Depp "took the franchise by the helm," notes Steve Rose in the Guardian.
