Maybe this time we can be swept up in a real fairy tale romance with a fetching commoner and her prince-who-would-be-king—not some sordid fractured fairy tale with raunchy talk about knickers, secret mistress phone calls, suicide attempts and a riding instructor affair. Here's hoping Prince William won't repeat the skeevy wandering ways of his homely pop and will be true to his lady love, notes Julie Burchill in the Independent. So far, signs are promising between the "good mates." True, they're a bit dull, though definitely attractive, she adds.

At least they're a co-habitating "modern couple: none of the grim Gothic virginity vows that Diana's family saw fit to make public so shockingly back in the bad old days," writes Burchill. And one has to admire gorgeous Kate, willing to "throw in her lot with the weirdest clan this side of the Addams Family," the writer adds. "Let us hope that her prince has more of his mother than his father in him," Burchill concludes. "If he does, they may well live happily ever after. If he doesn't, we may be witnessing the opening act of yet another doomed fairytale." (More Prince William stories.)
