In an interview in GigaOM, veteran NYC-based venture capitalist Fred Wilson is bullish on New York City as the next major center of technological innovation. He says that Internet companies based in the city are being flooded with venture capital at the same magnitude as Silicon Valley start-ups.

Wilson attributes the growth to a maturation in business models that requires more expertise in the areas that New York is famous for—finance, media, fashion, and design. There's just one thing missing, says Wilson, "a standout performer on the order of a Google, Apple or eBay."
