Karl Rove might know a thing or two about smear campaigns, and he takes to the pages of the Wall Street Journal to dismantle the one he says Dems are mounting against him by alleging that he and Ed Gillespie "take in secret foreign money to influence our elections." Rubbish, writes Rove: First, that's illegal, and second, the lefties have zero proof—their baseless allegations are too much "even for the New York Times, " he writes.

Rove's flattered and all by a president being "slightly obsessive" about him, but figures Dems clinging to their seats can't be too happy he's ignoring "principal issues in favor of unsupported attacks of dubious significance." And really, Obama and Co. are just blowing smoke to "distract voters" from his "body of work—the lousy jobs picture, failed stimulus package, disastrous health-care law, reckless spending, and unprecedented deficits." Maybe instead, "the president should run off a few more senior aides." (More Karl Rove stories.)
