Elisabeth Hasselbeck has gained quite a following for her constant stream of did-she-really-just-say-that moments on The View, not to mention the fact that she always seems just a hair-trigger away from breaking down in tears. But will Hasselbeck’s popularity follow her to her new stint on Good Morning America? After all, the reason we watch her is because of “the possibility she might go ape at any moment," writes Mary Elizabeth Williams on Salon—and that possibility is distinctly absent in her role as a “parenting and family issues” correspondent.
Her “softball first segment,” on teenage tattoos, was “a perfectly fine non-story story to launch her new role,” which is exactly the problem. There were “no stem cells, N-words, or weird notions about war involved”—just “the stunning news that rub-on tattoos are a temporary alternative to needles and blood,” Williams continues. "Will audiences buy her as both the 8am concerned mom reporter and the 11am big bag of Whoopi-baiting bananas? Only time will tell.” Click here to watch her first segment.
