A Montana woman fought off an angry bear with a zucchini this morning, the AP reports. The woman awoke after midnight to the sound of her collie being attacked by a 200-pound black bear. She screamed at the bear from her back door, prompting it to charge her and swipe, ripping her pants with its claws. The woman jumped back into her kitchen, grabbed a zucchini from the counter, and threw it at the still-advancing bear. The foot-long veggie plunked the bear on the head, and it ran off. (And the collie's fine.)

"The bear growled and was very aggressive and tried to come inside of her back door," the local sheriff said. "She was able to stop the pursuing bear by improvising."
