Bush Asks $46B More for Wars

Citing the need to "provide our troops with the support they need to get the job done," President Bush asked Congress today for $46 billion more to fund wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the AP reports. Not so fast, said congressional Democrats, who vowed not to act until next year despite Bush's plea to pass the measure before the holidays.

The request brings the total for 2007 to $196.4 billion, and Bush's framing of the funding as backing for "our men and women on the front lines" rather than the administration's foreign policy appears sure to set off another round of debate, the Washington Post reports.
