Two-Thirds of Americans Oppose Mosque

The proposed Islamic center near Ground Zero—and the entire religion of Islam, for that matter—get little love in a new Washington Post-ABC poll:

• Two-thirds oppose the construction of the center and mosque, with most of those (82%) saying it's because of the location.
• 49% have an unfavorable view of Islam vs. 37% with a favorable view, the biggest negative split since the question was first asked in 2001.

• 83% of Republicans oppose the Muslim center, along with 65% of independents and 53% of Democrats.
• 67% of Republicans have a negative view of Islam, up from 42% 10 years ago.
• Most Protestants and Catholics oppose the project, while those with no professed religion support it.
