Eddie Murphy will at least pause his feud with Saturday Night Live long enough to host an episode this year. The comedian joined the cast in 1980, when he was 18, rising to fame and then moving on in 1984. He hosted a show before he left, despite being in the cast, IndieWire reports, then returned only for an anniversary show in 2015. The feud began with jokes made about Murphy on the show—including one by David Spade, who was in the cast at the time, that referred to him as "a falling star." Murphy told Rolling Stone that stung because it was about his career, not just one of his films, and because the script usually is approved by Lorne Michaels, the boss. Murphy will host the holiday show on Dec. 21, per CNN. The musical guest wasn't announced.
The fall hosts were announced, though not all of the musical guests. SNL's 45th season begins Sept. 28, with the episode airing live coast-to-coast, hosted by Woody Harrelson, with Billie Eilish performing. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will host for the first time on Oct. 5, with Taylor Swift appearing. The Oct. 12 show will have David Harbour with Camila Cabello, and Kristen Stewart will host Nov. 21. One of Murphy's characters 35 years ago was Mr. Robinson, Entertainment Weekly points out. Tom Hanks' film about Mr. Rogers, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, comes out the month before Murphy's hosting gig. So Mr. Robinson might make a long-awaited return to SNL as well.
