In response to an open records request, the city attorney told the AP the city's insurance company paid $1.5 million to settle the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Michael Brown Sr. and Lezley McSpadden. Brown, 18, was unarmed when he was shot and killed by white police officer Darren Wilson in 2014, sparking months of protests over racial bias in the city's police force.
