Wonder Woman's days of looking like a patriotic stripper are over. DC Comics will reboot its iconic character this week in Wonder Woman #600, the company announced last night. She'll get a new backstory, and with it a costume that new writer J. Michael Stracynski says will be modern and functional. “So many female fans have said over the years, 'How does she fight in that without all her parts popping out?'” he tells Comic Book Resources.

"Not to get all Project Runway on this, but what woman wears the same outfit for 60 years?” he continues, saying he'd like Wonder Woman to be as “strong, sexy, dangerous and modern” as Trinity from the Matrix. In the story, the gods have for some inscrutable reason (low sales?) rewritten the timeline, destroying Wonder Woman's usual home of Paradise Island, and leaving her to be raised in an “urban setting” instead. And apparently, it's an urban setting where leather jackets are in style. (More Wonder Woman stories.)
