Late last month, President Biden predicted we'd see some sort of ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war within days. That break has still not come to pass, and now the US president is warning Israel's leadership on the attacks in Gaza, where deaths continue to mount, including by starvation. Over the weekend, Biden cautioned that an Israeli incursion into Rafah, along the southern border of the Gaza Strip right as Ramadan starts, would be crossing a "red line," per the AP. The war can't see "30,000 more Palestinians dead," Biden told MSNBC on Saturday.

  • Netanyahu's numbers: The Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza has said there've been more than 30,000 Palestinian deaths, and Bibi's numbers aren't too far off from that. He says about 13,000 Palestinian fighters have been killed, with the death rate of civilians estimated to be 1 to 1.5 killed for every combatant—which Politico estimates to be a total death toll of "at least 26,000."
  • His reaction to Biden: "You know, I have a red line. You know what the red line is?" Netanyahu said Sunday, per Politico. "That October 7 doesn't happen again. Never happens again." He also noted that Biden's assertion that Israel's attacks in Gaza were going against both the wishes and interests of the Israeli people was "wrong on both counts."
  • Two-state solution? That's what Biden is still hoping for, but not his Israeli counterpart. Israelis "also support my position that says that we should resoundingly reject the attempt to ram down our throats a Palestinian state," he said. Netanyahu blamed the lack of peace in the region on the fact that Palestinians "have not brought themselves to recognize and accept the Jewish state."
  • Netanyahu's prediction: The Israeli leader says he sees an end to his nation's on-the-ground fighting within two months or sooner, claiming Israel has destroyed 75% of Hamas' "fighting terrorism battalions." "Maybe six weeks, maybe four," he said.
