Nazi Hunters Track 'Dr. Death' to Patagonia

Investigators hunting Nazi war criminals believe they have discovered where their most-wanted war fugitive has been hiding, reports the BBC. The Simon Wiesenthal Center has sent experts to southern Chile to track down Aribert Heim, dubbed "Dr. Death" for his barbaric experiments on Jews in the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria. Heim performed operations and amputations without anesthesia to see how much pain his victims could withstand.

The Nazi hunters say they have information that Heim, who would now be 94, is still alive—and they have detailed evidence of his crimes to prosecute him once he's located. "He kept a log of the operations that he carried out," said the center's director. "He tortured many inmates before he killed them at Mauthausen—and he used body parts of the people he killed as decorations." (More Nazi stories.)
