A Famous Alum Backs Kavanaugh's Accuser

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has joined more than 200 other alumnae of Maryland’s Holton-Arms School in signing an open letter in support of Christine Blasey Ford, a Holton graduate who accuses Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers. "We believe Dr. Blasey Ford and are grateful that she came forward to tell her story," reads the letter signed by the Veep star, who graduated from the all-girls school in 1979, Vanity Fair reports. Ford's "experience is all too consistent with stories we heard and lived while attending Holton," the letter says. "Many of us are survivors ourselves."

"We dream of making a world where women are free from harassment, assault, and sexual violence," says the letter, which thanks Ford for "bravely stepping forward and bringing us closer to that world we all seek." Holton-Arms head Susanna A. Jones issued a statement Sunday saying it was important that Ford be heard, the Washington Post reports. "As a school that empowers women to use their voices, we are proud of this alumna for using hers," she said. Kavanaugh, who attended the private all-boys Georgetown Preparatory School, denies the allegations. It's not clear whether a Thursday vote on his nomination will go ahead.
