A trailer with at least 100 decomposing corpses was left on the outskirts of Guadalajara but it wasn't yet another drug cartel atrocity: Officials say it was brought there because a wave of violence has left local mortuaries completely full. Residents say they complained to authorities about the terrible stench from the trailer, which was shifted to the suburb of Tlajomulco after complaints from residents in another neighborhood, the Guardian reports. "We have a lot of children in this neighborhood ... it could make us all sick," said local man José Luis Tovar. The trailer has now been moved to an industrial area.

Mexican law bans the cremation of victims of violent crime, reports the BBC, and authorities say they ran out of cemetery plots in which to bury the bodies. An official in the state attorney's general insists that the rented trailer was properly refrigerated—despite residents' complaints of flies and a foul smell—and says there was "only" around 100 bodies in it, not 157 as claimed in some reports. Authorities say the bodies will be transferred when construction of a new morgue with more capacity is completed in about six weeks. (Some 166 bodies were recently found in clandestine burial pits in Veracruz state.)
