Monica Lewinsky had a message for the world Wednesday, delivered via Twitter. "Please don't invite me to an event (esp one about social change) and—then after i've accepted—uninvite me because bill clinton then decided to attend/was invited. It's 2018," she tweeted. Although the 44-year-old Lewinsky—just 22 when, as an intern, she and then-President Clinton started an affair—didn't name the party she said disrespected her, HuffPost did: Town & Country magazine, which held its annual Philanthropy Summit Wednesday, with Clinton introducing Parkland survivor Emma Gonzalez. Lewinsky saw support online after she spilled about the diss. "@townandcountry should be ashamed of themselves," tweeted film director Judd Apatow.

"Do they let their heads of the magazine prey on their interns?" he continued. "Would they disinvite them after abusing their power to get what they wanted from them?" Clinton's press secretary also took to Twitter to say his boss had received the invite, which he "gladly accepted," but he added Clinton and his staff hadn't been aware about an invitation to Lewinsky or the fact it had apparently been taken back. On Thursday, Town & Country acknowledged something had gone amiss. "We apologize to Ms. Lewinsky and regret the way the situation was handled," it noted in an early morning tweet. Lewinsky had previously offered the magazine some advice. "Definitely, please don't try to ameliorate the situation by insulting me with an offer of an article in your mag," she tweeted. (Lewinsky penned a Vanity Fair essay earlier this year.)
