(Newser) – After a 28-year-old man who allegedly wanted to have sex with their 13-year-old daughter showed up at their home, a Canadian couple restrained him with zip ties and called the Mounties. Now they're the ones who could face charges. In Facebook Live video of the incident, the mother can be heard complaining that police refused to come to the house even after they told them the "predator" had arranged a visit. "He came to my house to meet my 13-year-old f-----g daughter to f--k her. We f-----g tackled him and zap-strapped him and called the police," the mother says, per the San Francisco Chronicle. In the Facebook Live footage, the couple berate and interrogate the man while he is restrained. The RCMP took the man to the hospital and did not charge him, CTV reports.

The girl's mother and stepfather say the man is a family acquaintance and they learned of his intentions after intercepting explicit messages on her phone. Police say the Port Alberni, BC, couple could face charges for assault and forcible confinement, reports the Vancouver Sun. "Preliminary indications are that the man was restrained as a result of vigilante actions," the Mounties said in a statement. The couple accuse the police of doing nothing, though RCMP Cpl. Amelia Hayden says that an investigation of the man began last month and is still active. She says the parents had been warned not to take matters into their own hands. The mother says their actions were justified. "If I get charged, I still feel it was the right thing," she says. (A child sex sting operation in Pennsylvania caught a police chief.)
