Is Justin Trudeau trying to kill off "mankind"? The Canadian prime minister was mocked for being a politically correct "snowflake" after video emerged of him correcting a woman at a town hall event who said maternal love will "change the future of mankind," the BBC reports. "We like to say 'peoplekind,' not necessarily 'mankind,' because it’s more inclusive," Trudeau told the woman, who had told him she was a member of a feminist Korean church. The audience cheered, but Trudeau was strongly criticized by conservative media, including Fox and Friends, where guest Jordan Peterson accused him of using the language of "radical leftist propagandists," the Guardian reports.

Other critics accused Trudeau of "mansplaining" to the woman at the Edmonton, Alberta, event, who had thanked him for including many women in his administration. Trudeau's defenders, however, complained that the short excerpt from the meeting was taken out of context and that full video of the exchange shows the prime minister was being lighthearted, the Washington Post reports. "He was lightly ribbing a woman who was rambling about the power of women, 'God the Mother,' and how the world needs womanly love," tweeted Daniel Dale from the Toronto Star, describing the "right-wing pile-on" as "misleading." (Canada now has a gender-neutral version of its national anthem.)
