President Trump's critics had turned Georgia's congressional runoff into a referendum on him, and the president was happy to do a little gloating in the wake of victory. "Well, the Special Elections are over and those that want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN are 5 and O! All the Fake News, all the money spent = 0,” he tweeted Tuesday night. It comes after Karen Handel's win in Georgia and Ralph Norman's victory in South Carolina on Tuesday. Politico notes that both races were close in comfortably red districts, which doesn't necessarily bode well for the GOP's chances in the 2018 midterms, but Republicans were nonetheless in a celebratory mood.

"The Democrats threw the kitchen sink at this deal and they’ve come up empty again," says Scott Reed of the US Chamber of Commerce, which spent more than $1 million on Handel ads. The Washington Post suggests that one immediate effect of her win might be to bolster GOP efforts in the Senate to repeal ObamaCare quickly. As for Trump, he offered Democrats some advice on Wednesday morning: They "would do much better as a party if they got together with Republicans on Healthcare,Tax Cuts,Security," he tweeted. "Obstruction doesn't work!" (Earlier, the GOP scored big congressional wins in Montana and Kansas.)
