Facing an expected influx of 800,000 migrants and refugees from the Middle East and Africa this year, Germany has translated the first 20 articles of its constitution into Arabic in order to speed up integration, Reuters reports. "People who come here must not only learn the German language, but also learn the rules of the game of living together," the German vice chancellor says. "I am convinced that the first 20 articles of our constitution are what shape our culture." Those articles cover equal rights for men and women, the separation of church and state, freedom of speech, and more.
Quartz reports new migrants and refugees—who will make up approximately 1% of Germany's population—will be expected to follow the constitution and find work quickly. The new arrivals are counted on to boost the country's economy. According to Reuters, 10,000 Arabic copies of the first 20 articles of Germany's constitution have already been printed to be distributed among migrants at registration centers.
