A murder case in France is getting attention not only for its gruesome details, but because of the apparent inspiration the killers drew from Breaking Bad, a prosecutor says. After reports that 23-year-old Eva Bourseau had been missing for two weeks, authorities climbed through her Toulouse apartment skylight last Monday to find a strong odor coming from a plastic container, reports the Local. Inside, they found Bourseau's body—her killers had cut off her legs in order to fit her inside, adds the Local—in the "advanced stages of decomposition," a prosecutor says; the Telegraph reports it was Bourseau's mother who found the body. The prosecutor argues two men had beaten Bourseau with brass knuckles and a crow bar over a $6,500 drug debt before killing her with a blow to the head 10 days earlier, reports the Washington Post.

The killers allegedly returned to the scene of the crime with chlorine acid in the hope of dissolving her body, reports Radio France Internationale; the Telegraph reports at least one suspect admitted they were trying to imitate the lead characters of AMC's Breaking Bad, who use hydrofluoric acid to get rid of their victims' bodies. The prosecutor says the killers visited the home several times after putting Bourseau's body in the acid to check on the decomposition, steal items from the apartment, and clean up the scene. They also left air fresheners to hide the smell, he says. Three men and a woman, aged 19 to 23, have been indicted in connection with the murder. Two men face charges of murder, drug trafficking, and robbery, while the third was indicted for murder by complicity. The woman was charged with drug trafficking.
