Prominent Republicans keep coming out of the woodwork to sign onto a legal brief that pushes the Supreme Court to throw its weight behind gay marriage. More than two dozen have added their names since the amicus brief first made headlines, bringing the total signatures up to more than 100. None of the new signers are exactly household names—the most noteworthy include top Romney adviser Beth Myers, economist and McCain adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin, and ex-congressman Charles Bass—but the New York Times points out that Republicans have now "taken a more expansive stance" on the subject than President Obama.

Many Democrats have come out in favor of overturning Proposition 8 of course, including California AG Kamala Harris, who filed her own brief yesterday saying the law serves only to "strip loving relationships of validation and dignity," the LA Times reports. Meanwhile, more than 200 American companies, including such big names as Citigroup, Apple, Mars, and Alcoa, signed onto a brief opposing the Defense of Marriage Act, arguing that it increases their administrative costs, and, in states where same-sex marriage is legal, "forces us to treat one class of our lawfully married employees differently than another."
