Zero Dark Thirty kicked Gangster Squad's butt at the box office this weekend after receiving an Oscar nomination for best picture, says the Hollywood Reporter. Kathryn Bigelow's followup to The Hurt Locker banked a surprising $24 million, ahead of Haunted House ($18.8 million), the star-studded Gangster Squad ($16.7 million), Django Unchained ($11.1 million), and Les Miserables ($10.1 million). Other contenders for best picture, like Silver Linings Playbook, Lincoln, and Life of Pi saw a good boost or minimal slide in ticket sales after the Academy's announcement this week.
