Bachmann: My Miscarriage Changed My Life

Michele Bachmann today revealed what she described as a formative event in her life: a miscarriage she had after her second child. “It was devastating for both of us, as you can imagine if any of you have lost a child,” Bachmann told a South Carolina crowd of around 600, according to Politico. “When we lost that child it changed us. And it changed us forever.”

She said the miscarriage had shaped her anti-abortion views, and driven her to take in 23 foster children, in addition to her own five biological children. Bachmann also talked a little policy, surprising the crowd by saying she might not sign Jim DeMint’s “Cut, Cap, and Balance” pledge, because it doesn’t de-fund ObamaCare. “I really like it,” she explained, but “I probably want to go a little further.” She also called for defense spending cuts, particularly regarding America’s NATO commitments.
