Passengers on a Tampa bus got a surprise yesterday, when a homeless man got on and started handing out wads of cash. The source of the loot? A bank the man, 27-year-old Elmer McGuirt, had robbed mere moments earlier, police tell the St. Petersburg Times. McGuirt allegedly walked into the bank and handed the teller a note indicating he had a weapon and demanding money.

Once he had the cash, he hopped on the bus and started handing it out, though he did stuff a wad of it in his pants for himself, according to police. But he didn’t get to keep it for long; the Sheriff’s Office contacted the bus driver, who pulled over, pretending he’d had a mechanical failure. Deputies arrested McGuirt and were able to recover some—but not all—of the money he'd given the other passengers. (Hat tip to Pat's Papers for the find.)
