Lisa Murkowski Certified as Winner in Alaska

It took awhile, but Lisa Murkowski was officially named the winner of Alaska's Senate race today. Gov. Sean Parnell and Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell, who oversees elections, signed the paperwork certifying her victory. That should enable Murkowski to be sworn in with her colleagues next week in Washington.

With certification, Murkowski becomes the first Senate candidate since Strom Thurmond in 1954 to win a write-in campaign. The official tally certified showed her margin of victory over the man who defeated her in the Republican primary, Joe Miller, was 10,252 votes. "The voters have spoken," said Parnell. "The courts have confirmed their voice." (More Lisa Murkowski stories.)
